What is EECP?

What Is EECP?

Enhanced External Counter-pulsation (EECP) is a non-surgical therapy for angina, heart disease, high blood pressure, and other conditions involving poor circulation.

A Natural Bypass

If you've been diagnosed with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetic neuropathy, or another circulatory disorder, you could benefit from a non-surgical therapy called EECP.

This therapy is sometimes referred to as a "natural bypass" because it enhances the body's ability to create new pathways for blood flow around clogged arteries. EECP greatly accelerates the formation of tiny blood vessels called collaterals, helping restore healthy circulation to organs and tissues that have been deprived of blood and oxygen.

How Does EECP Work?

During an EECP treatment, you lie on a bed wearing a series of adjustable cuffs around your calves, lower thighs, and upper thighs. The cuffs are inflated in sequence, placing pressure on the legs that assists blood flow from the lower limbs to the heart. The inflation of the cuffs is timed to occur so that increased blood flow is delivered to the heart at the precise moment it is relaxing. Then, just before the heart pumps, the cuffs deflate, reducing resistance and decreasing the heart's workload.

A treatment session lasts about one hour, during which you can read, listen to music, or relax comfortably. Most patients undergo 35 one-hour sessions, once or twice a day, over the course

EECP Relieves Angina Pain

EECP was developed at Harvard University almost 50 years ago as a therapy for angina, the squeezing chest pain that occurs when the heart is not getting enough oxygen. This most common symptom of coronary artery disease can be extremely disabling, interfering with the ability to work, exercise, or enjoy social activities.

By encouraging the formation of collaterals around blockages in the coronary arteries, EECP enhances the heart's supply of oxygen and reduces chest pain. Several studies conducted at leading university medical centers have shown that patients who undergo a course of EECP experience significant benefits:

-They have fewer episodes of angina
-The episodes of angina are less intense
-They need less anti-angina medication
-They can walk farther without experiencing angina
-They can resume work and enjoy more social activities

Unlike drugs that are prescribed for angina, EECP is completely safe and without side effects. And unlike angioplasty and bypass surgery ¡X highly invasive surgical interventions that are used to clear or circumvent blockages in the arteries ¡X EECP can be done on an outpatient basis and requires no post-treatment recovery period. EECP's benefits in heart disease are now so well recognized that Medicare reimburses for it.

Many patients undergo EECP after suffering a heart attack or enduring one or even several surgeries for coronary artery disease. In some cases, EECP is their only option. Yet this non-invasive therapy is so safe and effective that it should be considered as a first-line treatment for angina, not just a last resort after surgery has been ruled out.

For a growing number of patients, opting for EECP before consenting to a potentially dangerous surgical procedure is an obvious decision. In less time than it takes to recover from bypass surgery, these patients can complete a full course of EECP and begin enjoying an active, pain-free life.

What Other Conditions Benefit From EECP?

EECP isn't just a powerful therapy for angina. Virtually any condition in which poor circulation is a contributing factor can benefit from EECP Here is just a partial list:

Congestive heart failure
Diabetic neuropathy
Erectile dysfunction
Hypertension
Kidney disease
Memory disorders
Peripheral vascular disease
Parkinsons disease
Vision problems
Research Studies & Demonstarted Results

Angina
An international study group evaluated EECP's effectiveness for patients with chronic stable angina at seven medical centers. After treatment, 85 percent of patients experienced a significant improvement in their angina symptoms, and 83 percent showed a measurable increase in blood flow to the heart. Exercise capacity also improved significantly. American Journal of Cardiology, 2002; 89(7): 822-4.

DIABETES

Researchers from Harvard Medical School studied EECP's effects on angina in diabetic patients with or without congestive heart failure. EECP was equally effective in both groups: on average, 70 percent of patients experienced a significant reduction in the severity of their angina. The number of angina episodes per week decreased by an average of 10 percent. Nitroglycerin use also declined. Abstract #689-P, 62nd Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association, San Francisco, California, June 15, 2002.

Eye Disease

German researchers studied the effects of EECP on blood flow to the eyes in elderly patients with diagnosed coronary artery disease. They measured blood flow through the ophthalmic artery, a major vessel that provides two-third's of the retina's blood supply. After EECP, patients experienced an average improvement of 11.4 percent in blood flow through the ophthalmic artery. Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology. 2001; 239(80); 599-602.

Anti-Aging Medicine has many goals…

… some of them, like extending the maximum lifespan, of about 120 years, are not yet within our reach. But many are realistic and worth striving for:

Who wouldn’t like to delay the onset of aging and to extend the years we live healthily and in good shape?

Who wouldn’t like to live longer and beyond the average lifespan of currently about 80 years?

Who wouldn’t like to prevent the diseases that frequently come with advanced age, like memory loss, fatigue, heart disease, stroke, cancer or arthritis?

How do we move towards these goals? Here are some of the essential steps:

1 Prevent Premature Aging

The first and most important step in Anti-Aging Medicine is good old prevention. How do you answer the following questions?

Is my diet healthy, low in sugar and trans-fatty acids, high in vegetables and with the optimal amount of protein?

Am I overeating? Caloric restriction has been shown to extend age and to prevent cancer in mammals, although its effect is yet unproven in humans?

Do I suffer from Hyperinsulinism? A high fasting Insulin level promotes premature aging, even in non-diabetics.

Do I have a toxic lifestyle -smoking, too much alcohol, drugs- or am I exposed to environmental toxins?

Am I chronically stressed, which causes an elevation of Cortisol and a decline in DHEA?

Do I get enough sleep? Most people need 7 to 8 hours, which cannot be reduced without negative consequences.

Do I exercise enough or possibly even over-exercise?

Do I feel depressed, isolated or does my life lack meaning?
2. Take Antioxidants:

Denham Harman is the father of the free radical theory of aging. Put simply: oxidation, which constantly goes on in our body, produces unpaired electrons, so-called free radicals, which damage various cell structures, like DNA, RNA, and proteins. Exogenous antioxidants, which are taken in with food or as nutritional supplements should therefore slow aging.

3. Hormone Replacement:

As we age, the body produces less and less hormones; a process that, by the way, starts already in the 20s. For example, our levels of DHEA, Growth Hormone, Melatonin and sex hormones steadily decline from decade to decade. In addition, aging cells become more and more resistant to the effects of hormones. That leads, according to the neuroendocrine theory of aging, to a hormonal starvation of our cells. Without sufficient hormones, the body’s ability to repair and regulate itself is impaired. Hormone replacement therapy is therefore thought to reset the hormonal clock, delay the onset of aging and provide vitality and energy.

Like everything in medicine, a hormone replacement has to be individualized, and the potential risks and benefits have to be taken into account. If you are considering a hormone replacement program, you first need to get a lab test to determine your current hormone levels.

Founder's Commentary for October, 2005

Greetings friends and supporters of the Alternative Medicine Referral Network;
September was indeed a great time for growth for the Alternative Medicine Referral Network.

In addition to signing on some great companies as sponsors, we attended some wonderful events and promoted our network.

At the end of the month, we held our first mixer and I want to thank everyone who was present. There were approximately 65 people in attendance and the mixer was hosted by international Business Intuitive, Mr. George Shaver. George was a pleasure to talk with and was the perfect host. During the week, we will be setting up a live line where anyone with questions can talk to George directly by clicking an icon on our website.

The Alternative Medicine Referral Network was also represented at the CAMEXPO, held in Los Angeles. This was a wonderful show! I left the show thinking that this is truly a wonderful time to be present in this world. I believe that we can treat and reverse; - if not cure most of the ailments people have through the use of better nutrition along with alternative and complementary therapies. I encourage anyone who has been diagnosed with a chronic illness to call us and contact one of our alternative physicians.

There is a new sponsor we have, Nationwide Beverage Bottling, Inc. I encourage you to take a look at their products and if you are so drawn, consider investing. Not even having been in business for a year, I am impressed by the number of large clients they have in their portfolio.

Nationwide Beverage Bottling initiated public trading on the Pink Sheets as of May 12, 2005 (NBVB.PK). As a new member, we are anticipating rapid growth and are in the process of petitioning for trading options on the NASDAQ as soon as time permits. Unlike other new companies, we are not in the start-up phase in need of seed capital. We have a manufacturing company with significant capacity to produce a thousand bottles of water per minute and we have a marketing and distribution liaison in existences. We look for rapid and continued growth as our company gains its foothold in the market place.

Nationwide Beverage Bottling has been doing a local “road show” in southern California at various malls. In addition to providing water for U.S. Troops and Katrina victims. KoKomo Water is a flagship product of NBB. KoKomo brand offers a complete line of naturally flavored mountain spring and "aqua-ceutical" water products.

To talk with someone regarding investor relations or get information for Nationwide Beverage Bottling, please contact the company directly at:

We are also working to make the Alternative Medicine Referral Network more "user friendly" and get our referral clients more quickly in touch with practitioners and clinics. There is a feature we will be adding to cross-connect those with questions directly with a therapist. This feature has been implemented and is being fine-tuned during October.

I feel as though we are at the flash-point of what I call a "Revolution in Wellness". This has taken root in the national consciousness and I see it through people who call our referral line, visits to holistic clinics and simply day-to-day contact. More people than ever are seeking to be truly "Well", and are willing to make lifestyle changes. I ask that more of us continue to share our experiences with others so more people may benefit.

The use of alternative therapies is increasing.

Nearly two-thirds of American adults use some form of complementary or alternative medicine ranging from prayer to herbs, a U.S. government survey showed. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted the survey of 31,000 U.S. adults, asking about 27 types of therapies such as acupuncture and chiropractic, the use of herbs or botanical products, special diets, and megavitamin therapy. About 36 percent of those surveyed said they had used one or more of those approaches. When prayer was considered, the number rose to 62 percent. Women, people with higher education, those who had been hospitalized within the past year and former smokers were all more likely to use complementary or alternative approaches, the survey found.

We are a resource for those seeking health answers.

With more people than ever seeking information on alternative medicine and receiving treatments from alternative practitioners, we formed the Alternative Medicine Referral Network to be a resource for the general public to connect with licensed, certified and pre-screened holistic practitioners.

Founders Commentary for September, 2005

from Derrick Walker

Greetings friends and supporters of the Alternative Medicine Referral Network;

August was a fantastic month for us! The Alternative Medicine Referral Network was represented at the American Naturopathic Medical Association show in Las Vegas. Additionally, the Anti-Aging Congress had a very successful tradeshow over the weekend of August 19-21 in Chicago. From the reports I have heard, this was the largest attendance for the anti-aging event. I also attended several workshops, including Cindy Shuster's "Belly Wisdom - Own your own Greatness Intensive" at Awakenings bookstore in Laguna Beach, CA. and was very impressed with the material covered and Cindy's teaching on living an 'authentic life'. If you are fortunate enough to be in town when she speaks or gives a workshop, I encourage you to attend. You will learn a great deal... about yourself! We will be sending out information to members on how to enter a drawing for Cindy Shuster's "Belly Wisom" CD. I also had the rare pleasure of hearing Dr. Julian Whitaker of the Whitaker Wellness Institute speak. It was very inspiring and was a great reminder of how much of a role our choices play in every aspect of our health.

AMRN has just signed on a sponsor who will be doing testing with a device that can tell us how effective our anti-oxidant level is along with how well our supplement use is working. I took this quick 3-minute test and scored well, however there is room for improvement. There will be more information on this and how to obtain a test for yourself during the coming weeks. Please check back on our website or call 1.866.890.0970.

We are also working to make the Alternative Medicine Referral Network more "user friendly" and get our referral clients more quickly in touch with practitioners and clinics. There is a feature we will be adding to cross-connect those with questions directly with a therapist. This feature should be implemented during September.

We got a call from a young woman in New York state who asked for my assistant, Leslie. Leslie was not available so I took the call. As it turns out, this woman was diagnosed with breast cancer and was calling to give a very emotional 'thank you' to Leslie for referring her to one of our holistic doctors. Through the treatments she has received, not only is her cancer in remission, but she has developed a very positive outlook via the emotional and spiritual counseling she has received. I was sincerely touched by this call and asked for a testimonial letter.

I strongly urge anyone who is suffering with a health issue or who has a relative or friend who is looking for deeper answers to their health issues to look into alternative medicine. This should not preempt any other measures you are already taking through your traditional physician, but it is an avenue that should be explored. As we are seeing in our lifetime, more and more traditional medicine is merging with alternative medicine and I think this will keep us all healthier for a longer time.

The use of alternative therapies is increasing.

Nearly two-thirds of American adults use some form of complementary or alternative medicine ranging from prayer to herbs, a U.S. government survey showed. "Diet is the essential key to all successful healing. Without a proper balanced diet, the effectiveness of herbal treatment is very limited. With the appropriate eliminative or balanced diet, herbal treatment will prove itself to be effective where no medicine will work and will often be faster than the quick but temporary relief of Western drugs."
